The friendliness and warmth of the hut managers, along with excellent cuisine, will make your stay a unique experience at the foot of some of the most famous 4,000-meter peaks of the Monte Rosa.
The hut can be the destination of a day hike or the starting point for mountaineering routes such as Castor (4,221 m), Lyskamm West (4,478 m), or the Lyskamm traverse.
The hut was originally built in 1885 and later rebuilt in 1907 and 1924. The current structure dates back to 1981.
This ascent is recommended for well-trained hikers with good technical ability. The final section of the route features a crest which, although equipped, remains quite demanding.
The hike can start from Saint Jacques, behind the small church, where you will find the first signs for the hut. Follow trail no. 9, which leads in about 45 minutes of steep switchbacks through the forest to the hamlet of Resy. Passing in front of Rifugio Ferraro and continuing towards the dirt road leading to the village, after about 30 minutes you reach the starting point of the Bettaforca chairlift. Nearby begins the trail that leads to the Bettaforca Pass (2,727 m), which takes about 2h30–2h45.
This is also the point that can be reached by our Jeep in about 35 minutes.
From here, continue along a well-marked trail, classified as EE (for experienced hikers) due to increasingly challenging terrain. You will reach the Lower Bettolina Pass (approx. 2,900 m) and continue towards the Upper Pass, which can also be accessed from Pian di Verra Superiore.
Shortly after, you will pass the “Capanna dei Muli,” and the slope begins to steepen until reaching the start of the crest section (around 3,450 m).
This crest has been significantly improved in recent years, making it more accessible thanks to fixed ropes and metal ladders for safer footing. However, despite these aids, a good level of mountain experience is still required, as the ridge remains very exposed and airy.
After this final section, you will reach the Felik plateau, where the hut is located. Here you are at the foot of the glacier, surrounded by some of the most beautiful 4,000-meter peaks of Monte Rosa.
