The Mezzalama Hut is one of the historic mountain huts of the Aosta Valley. It was originally built in 1934 and later expanded in 1987. Before the construction of the Guide di Ayas Hut at Lambronecca, it was a popular destination for mountaineers aiming to climb nearby peaks such as Pollux, Castor and Roccia Nera. Today, it is mainly visited for day hikes or by those wishing to experience an overnight stay in a high-altitude mountain hut.

From Lago Blu, continue along trail no. 7, crossing the moraine of the Verra Glacier and then descending briefly until you reach the dirt road at the beginning of Pian di Verra Superiore (2,300 m). After walking along the road for about 300–400 meters, you will find a small clearing with signs pointing to Mezzalama Hut and the Guide di Ayas Hut, with estimated times of 1h45 and 3h15 respectively.

This is also the furthest point you can reach by our Jeep, saving approximately 2 to 2.5 hours of walking.

From here, the route continues along a steep but technically manageable path on the moraine leading up to Mezzalama Hut. Along this section, it is quite common to encounter ibex, which, now accustomed to human presence, can often be admired from close range without running away.
