2,228 m (approx. 20 minutes from Pian di Verra inferiore, 1h 30min from Saint Jacques)

An ideal spot for a picnic with family or friends, this is perhaps the most famous walk in Val d’Ayas. The lake’s color is truly unique, due to the waters that feed it, which are rich in serpentine silt.

There are two ways to reach it: start from Saint Jacques (1,690 m) and follow trail no. 7 from the beginning, or take a Jeep up to Pian di Verra inferiore (2,050 m).

From the square in Saint Jacques, head uphill past the small church and continue straight along a steep climb, passing the Fior di Roccia bar/restaurant (well worth a stop on the way down for its excellent ice cream!). You will then reach a small chapel near a bridge over the Evançon stream. Continue straight and follow the yellow signs for trail no. 7, marked for Lago Blu or Mezzalama Hut. The path continues through the forest, passing through the hamlets of Fiery and Belbosco. After about one hour of walking, the path levels out and you reach Pian di Verra inferiore, known for its incredible views of Monte Rosa, with the peaks of Castor, Pollux, Roccia Nera and the Breithorn in the foreground.

From here, one final effort remains: the walk up to the lake. The distance is not long, but the slope is quite steep, so it’s important to save some energy for the last stretch. We can assure you, however, that the effort is absolutely worth it!
