3,207 m (2h15 from Tournalin Hut, 5h from Saint Jacques)

Petit Tournalin is a 3,200-meter peak which, together with Becca di Nana (also known as Falconetta), Bec Trecare, Grand Tournalin and Roisettaz, forms the ridge separating Val d’Ayas from Valtournenche.

The route is classified as EE (for experienced hikers). Although it is relatively short and does not feature particularly exposed or dangerous sections, it is still a demanding hike. The terrain, especially in the final part, consists of steep slopes with unstable scree.

The ascent to Petit Tournalin can start either from the village of Saint Jacques or, by using our off-road taxi service, from the Grand Tournalin Hut.

In the first case, the total ascent time is about 5 hours, with the initial section following the path that leads to the Grand Tournalin Hut. If starting from the hut, you first descend along the dirt road for a few hundred meters until you reach, on the right, the signs for Alta Via No. 1, which you follow for about 20–25 minutes up to Col di Nanaz (2,775 m).

At this point, just before the stone cairn marking the pass, turn right and follow the signs for trail 3D (not 3C, which leads to nearby Becca Trecare). After a grassy section, you will cross a scree slope marked by stone cairns and some yellow trail signs. At the end of this section begins the final ascent, characterized by steep gradients and unstable terrain, though well marked and easy to follow. Just south of the summit, the path becomes easier and quicker, and in a short time you will reach the top.

The panorama is truly spectacular: the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, Testa Grigia, Bec di Nana and, towering above, Grand Tournalin. Definitely not to be missed!
