3,420 m (3h15 from Pian di Verra Superiore, 5h–5h30 from Saint Jacques)

The Guide della Val d’Ayas Hut is located on the Lambronecca Rocks, beside the Verra Glacier. Opened in 1991, the hut offers 80 beds, showers, solar panels, and elegant rooms. Thanks to its small size and family-run management, it feels more like a mountain hotel than a traditional refuge, offering a truly unforgettable experience.

It is also a starting point for climbs to Pollux (4,091 m), Castor (4,221 m), Rocce Nere (4,065 m), Breithorn East (4,141 m) and Breithorn Central (4,156 m).

From Mezzalama Hut, continue uphill following trail no. 7, which, although well marked, becomes more challenging. The path follows what used to be the glacier bed before its retreat, so you will encounter unstable rocks, loose terrain and, depending on the season, snowfields to cross.
If tackled late in the morning, these snowfields generally do not require mountaineering equipment (traction cleats, ice axe, harness and rope), although good experience in high mountain hiking is essential.

The view from the top is well worth the effort: the hut overlooks the Verra Glacier and several peaks of Monte Rosa, as well as offering a stunning view over the Val d’Ayas.
